In an October 26, 2021 article published in The Hill, Lexi Lonas reported that a famous burger chain, In-N-Out restaurant in Contra Costa County, California, has been shut down indefinitely for violating the county’s coronavirus vaccine mandate.
According to the report, County Health officials closed the restaurant Tuesday after the restaurant failed to check the vaccination status of people who wanted to eat indoors.
In-N-Out Chief Legal and Business Officer Arnie Wensinger supported the restaurant through the process, saying it should not be their job to police an individual’s vaccination status. Wensinger said, “We refuse to become the vaccination police for any government. It is unreasonable, invasive, and unsafe to force our restaurant associates to segregate customers into those who may be served and those who may not, whether based on the documentation they carry or any other reason.”
Editor’s Note: Other branches of In-N-Out across California are taking the same position, at the risk of their business. Many businesses have cowered and blindly followed the illegal mandates because they want to keep their operations open. But In-N-Out has stood its ground, and for that, it will be remembered by many of its customers and non-customers as the business that respected and understood the primacy of the Constitution and the rights it protects.
In a weekly huddle of doctors conducted a few months ago, a leader of a business organization in the Philippines asked the doctors what they can do to stop the vaccination mandate. There is in fact a law that prohibits mandatory vaccination, and there are at least two memos that uphold the employees’ right not to be discriminated against based on their vaccination status. Suppose all business owners have the same mindset as In-N-Out, then pushing for what is right and forgoing discrimination will be a different playing field. Presuming businesses and traders are that forthright to be the guardians of the Constitutional right to freedom, then governments would not be this brazen with their unscientific policies. Fear has been their mechanism of control, and the majority of the citizens conceded their liberty naively. We think that if consumers and employees push back from these vaccine mandates, then these business people would start to listen to us: We don’t need the vaccines!
