How Digital ID Will Segregate People Around the World
How does a future with statelessness look like? In this article written by Eve Hayes de Kalaf published on The Conversation last August 8, 2021, she explored what it’s like for people who find themselves excluded from this new digital age.
De Kalaf discussed that we didn’t stumble upon this new age of digital data management by chance. International organizations like World Bank and the UN have actively encouraged states to provide citizens with proof of their legal existence to combat structural poverty, statelessness, and social exclusion.
In addition, in one of the author’s conferences, they examined digital ID registrations for discriminatory purposes in other parts of the world. Also, while the need for digital ID registrations is pressing, we need to take a step back and reflect on this post-pandemic world. The demands for digital COVID passports, biometric ID cards, and data-sharing track-and-trace systems facilitate the policing of people crossing borders and, increasingly, of the populations living within them. Also, it is pertinent to have a serious discussion about the impending pitfalls of digital ID systems and their far-reaching, life-altering impact.

Some people might think that there is nothing wrong with using digitalized ID systems, not until they see the huge possibility for abuse it opens. Ever heard of the social credit system of China? These days, the streets are being patrolled by well-suited military and police officers who have no qualms about using violence against people. - Regardless of the dangers of COVID jabs, governments are implementing unconstitutional policies to get everyone inoculated, even those who have already recovered from COVID that are already protected.
