In a March 23, 2022 article published in the Philippine News Agency, Stephanie Sevillano reported that The Department of Education (DepEd) on March 23 reiterated that students are not required to have a coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccination card before they may join the progressive expansion of the limited face-to-face classes in the country.

According to the report, at a Facebook live stream on the above-stated date, DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones clarified students would have to bring written consent from their parents instead of a vaccination card. “It is not necessary, and we don’t want to deprive children of this opportunity, but the teachers, we prefer them to be fully vaccinated… or undergo the usual tests to make sure our children will not be exposed.”

Moreover, DepEd Assistant Secretary Malcolm Garma stressed that although they fully support pediatric vaccination, they do not want to force it on students given the limited supply of vaccines for children. Garma said, “We are campaigning, of course, but we are not insisting on it.”

Did the vaccine-injured children being shared on social media motivate the DepEd’s tenacity for updating their policy on vaccination cards? It’s a minor victory; however, are these officials considering being solicitous to these kids? Suppose DepEd has its autonomy to decide for the early learners and adolescents, why not scrutinize the effects of all these mandates on children’s development? The flip-flopping on vaccine policy for students does not remove the fact that there are already vaccine-injured, and compulsory masking is equally hazardous to health as experimental covid jabs. Isn’t DepEd a hypocrite or just employing word salad and neuro-linguistic programming?

Parents, be patient enough with your growing children and do not gamble their health for face-to-face classes. Remember, once your child suffers from adverse events, you are alone.
