What’s Going on in Hong Kong?
Despite having one of the highest vaccination rates in the world, Hong Kong also has one of the highest COVID death rates in the world. Officials claim that COVID deaths are mostly among unvaccinated elderly residents.
Current data shows new cases are now decreasing. Deaths, however, remain high, though it is now showing early signs of decline.
This March 5, 2022 article written by Lilian Cheng and Elizabeth Cheung for the South China Morning Post, revealed that 72% of care homes are experiencing outbreaks. Moreover, local analysts say that 94% of COVID deaths in Hong Kong were among those aged 60 and above, most of whom were from care facilities.
Hong Kong authorities say that more elderly deaths are expected as the hospital system is overwhelmed and many old people are unable to receive proper treatment on time. Experts claim that there are three factors leading to the high death rate in Hong Kong: low elderly vaccination, low rates of prior infections in the population, and an overwhelmed public health care system.
Editor’s Note: If you look at the chart below, you will see that all throughout 2020 and 2021, Hong Kong has been doing well. It was able to keep its cases and death rates close to zero. What happened in February 2022? Why did COVID cases and deaths suddenly surge?
Hong Kong was able to overcome the Delta wave with no real problem among its elderly population, why then would the milder Omicron cause this sudden surge in deaths? Moreover, Omicron has been dominant in Hong Kong since late December 2021, why would COVID deaths increase only in February 2022? If indeed the deaths were due to Omicron, we would have seen bodies pile up as early as last year. After all, there were more unvaccinated elderly then, than there are now [Hong Kong’s vaccination rate has been consistently increasing, see featured image above].
Our research shows us one major change implemented in late February 2022: mandatory COVID-19 testing.1https://www.americanpost.news/hong-kong-orders-mandatory-covid-19-tests-for-all-its-inhabitants/, https://www.ft.com/content/1ca6533b-c01b-4f48-80b9-b0c35790522a, https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2022/feb/22/hong-kong-orders-mandatory-covid-19-tests-all-resi/, https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/hong-kong-imposes-3-rounds-of-mandatory-covid-tests-as-crisis-surges-2783308
Hong Kong required its citizens to take three rounds of COVID tests on February 22, 2022, and since then, COVID deaths have been increasing, even when cases have already started dropping in early March 2022. This is no surprise, like Hong Kong, like all other countries in the world, considers deaths that occur within 28 days of a positive COVID test as a “COVID death”, even if the death was caused by other illnesses [read also The truth about COVID deaths is a coming out, Governments now admitting: COVID deaths skewed by people who died of other causes ].
The case of Hong Kong is important because it clearly illustrates that zero-COVID is counterproductive. It also shows to us that COVID testing does nothing but fuel panic [see Dr. Jay Bhattacharya: Test and tracing only creates panic, How COVID Testing Strategy Will Extend Pandemic Scare. Aside from the issue of testing, there is also the issue of waning vaccine efficacy. While Hong Kong health authorities claim that it is the unvaccinated elderly who are suffering in this new surge in COVID cases and deaths, there simply is no way to confirm that.2Hong Kong does not categorize deaths and new cases by vaccination status, https://data.gov.hk/en-data/dataset/hk-dh-chpsebcddr-novel-infectious-agent
What are the chances that those who were already vaccinated now make up a majority of COVID cases? Based on data from other countries, there is a high probability for this [see UK Data Shows New Phase: Pandemic of the Boosted, US CDC Director Admits: Too Little Caution and Too Much Optimism For COVID Jab 95% Efficacy, Israeli study concludes vaccines have failed to prevent spread of COVID, CDC Data: COVID infection, hospitalization among vaccinated increase drastically].
As a word of caution, we want to end this article with this chart. It is a comparison of the vaccine rate, case rate, and death rate of five top-vaccinated areas in Asia: Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Brunei, and the Philippines. The four, Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Brunei have vaccination rates of above 70%, while the Philippines is “only” at 58.3%.3https://ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations If vaccines were truly effective, then why do we have better statistics than the highly vaccinated countries? Our Philippine health authorities need to stop brainwashing people.
Higher vaccination will not lead to fewer COVID cases and deaths. Data has shown the opposite from the very beginning. Why do we think the pattern would change now?
