No reason for draconian restrictions: WHO Report on Excess Mortality Proves Once Again That Sweden Was Right

In this May 20, 2022 article for Brownstone Institute, Ian Miller discusses the report released by the World Health Organization (WHO) entitled Global excess deaths associated with COVID-19, January 2020 – December 2021.

In the WHO report, we clearly see that Sweden’s decision to eschew lockdowns, keep its schools open, and to not mandate masking has paid off. Unlike other countries that imposed draconian policies on their populations, Sweden has emerged as the 25th out of 30 countries with the lowest excess deaths, an indirect indicator to measure the impact of the pandemic.

Miller goes on to demolish the belief that Germany, Portugal, and the Czech Republic’s brand of science that stressed “strict lockdowns, and extremely high rates of mask compliance”. Using data from the WHO report, Miller showed that in 2021, when more transmissible variants were “ravaging” countries, causing increases in excess deaths, Sweden’s excess deaths dropped dramatically compared to its 2020 figures. In fact, Miller shows that Sweden outperformed both Denmark and Finland in 2021, despite not mandating any of the COVID policies implemented by its neighboring countries (ex. varying levels of vaccine discrimination, continued mask mandates, and strict entry requirements).

Editor’s Note: Many “health experts” today would cite Sweden’s high vaccination coverage to explain away Sweden’s success, but the reality is that Sweden’s success has been pretty apparent since late 2020, long before the first COVID vaccine was injected [see Sweden is winning against the coronavirus, Is Sweden’s coronavirus response finally silencing the doubters?, The epidemic is over in Sweden, Sweden’s economy in much better shape than the rest of Europe, How Finland and Norway proved Sweden’s COVID approach works].

We now include Miller’s article on this website because the WHO report is a valuable resource that shows us that other countries did not need to impose draconian measures, and they did not need vaccines to “end” the pandemic [in fact, previous documents from the WHO states confirms that all the draconian policies imposed by countries in 2020 had no scientific basis, read Will the real WHO please stand up?].

Moreover, several researches have already shown us that lockdowns and masking are useless and harmful, and discrimination against the unvaccinated did nothing to stop the spread of COVID [see GUIDEBOOK TO END LOCKDOWNS NOW: An Executive Summary by Nicanor Perlas, Why Do Variants Keep on Emerging Despite Vaccination and Stringent Lockdowns?, SAGE adviser: Lockdowns can no longer be justified, lockdown narrative, Study shows vaccinated people play role in creating more dangerous COVID variants, Iceland: Vaccines Not Enough, as Many as Possible People Need to be Infected for herd immunity, Geert Vanden Boosche: Natural immunity, not vaccines, will create herd immunity].

We add this article because people are beginning to talk about the return of lockdowns and other draconian “public health” interventions to prevent the spread of monkeypox. We hope that people will remember how our governments, through the help of WHO and mainstream media have eroded our civil liberties. May the COVID experience teach us to be more discerning of the news we receive, and may it help us realize that our benefit is no longer at the center of the WHO’s health agenda [also read Sign the Petition: Refuse and Reject the WHO Powergrab That Would Lead to Global Medical Martial Law, World Council for Health Sounds Alarms on WHO’s pandemic treaty initiative].
