Document from Public Health England shows Delta less deadly than original strain, vaccinated more vulnerable to Delta variant

Document from Public Health England shows Delta less deadly than original strain, vaccinated more vulnerable to Delta variant

The following is a technical briefing report released by the Public Health England last June 25, 2021. The document entitled “SARS-CoV-2 Variants Of Concern And Variants Under Investigation In England” showed that Delta has become the dominant strain in the UK.

In table 2 (found on page 8 of the document), we see that the Delta variant has one of the lowest Case Fatality among all the variants of SARS-CoV-2. Meanwhile, another variant, Gamma, has 0% fatality. In table 3 (found on page 10), we see that more individuals aged below 50 years are getting infected, but very few are dying. Hospitalizations among the 50-below age group who get infected with the Delta variant is also much lower compared to those who are aged beyond 50 years. The document also confirms that Delta is indeed more infectious compared to the original strain (see table 7 on page 29 of the document).

Table 4 (found on page 13) shows that there were more hospital visits among the unvaccinated who contracted the Delta variant, but more people who received the vaccine died (70 vaccinated, 44 unvaccinated). Majority of deaths came from the above 50 age group. There is no information regarding comorbidities of the deceased aged 50 and below.

Editor’s Note: Though this document was published in June 2021, its conclusions are still relevant. As UK is one of the most vaccinated countries in the world, and the Delta variant already dominant in the country, their experience will help other countries create pandemic policies to deal with the variant.

Given this technical document, we wonder why people are saying that the unvaccinated are at risk of the virus. Yes, the younger, unvaccinated population tends to get more infected by the Delta variant, but as can be seen from the data, it is still the elderly, particularly the vaccinated, which are at the highest risk. In fact, this data from the PHE is showing us that people who have compromised immune systems who take the vaccine are at higher risk of complications due to COVID. There is a name for this: pathogenic priming, and we have already been warned about this previously [see Briefing document on Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine shows evidence of pathogenic priming among older adults, and What is pathogenic priming?].

Focused protection and natural immunity is still the best solution to address these variants, not vaccines [see Your immune system can protect you from COVID and all its future variants, anyone who says otherwise is lying, Finland study shows vaccines, universal masking, useless against Delta variant, New data shows vaccines useless against COVID in the long-term, Dr. Robert Malone: COVID vaccines are causing the virus to become more infectious, Vaccines may turn out to be deadlier than COVID].

We also want to stress this: infectiousness is not the same as the severity of infection. The data we are seeing from the Delta variant is only showing us that COVID is becoming endemic [see New study shows the path towards endemic COVID].
