In this June 3, 2022 article published in his Substack, Peter Imanuelsen, a Swedish journalist and political commentator, reports on the new announcements made by the State Statistics Central Bureau (SSB) in Norway.

In a May 6, 2022 press release, the SSB announced its intention to collect payment transactions via the Nets Branch Norway, a payment gateway widely used in Europe.

Imanuelsen says that this is just one of the many ways that Norway is controlling its citizens. He says, “This latest move is actually going pretty far in going towards a control society. We are now going full steam ahead…Norway is going to connect payment details done with card payments and grocery store receipts to figure out exactly what kind of food people are buying, and who is buying it.”

Imanuelsen adds that this is not the end. Ultimately, the state will track all financial transactions made by its citizens and the information collected will not be deleted. He says these are all part of the new digital ID system which uses fingerprints and face ID. The new system is scheduled to be rolled out in Norway in 2023.

Editor’s Note: From vaccine passports, we have now entered a society where digital IDs are becoming the norm. Was there ever a published study exploring the benefits and risks of utilizing this system? Has there been any consultation with citizens regarding the transition to this system? Maybe the Philippines would take a bit longer to transition to the Digital ID system because of the current technical difficulties in the country. But this should not be used as an excuse not to do anything.
