In a March 10, 2022 article published in Breitbart, Luca Nolan reported that DuckDuckGo, an alternative search engine, has announced that it will be “down-ranking” sites associated with “disinformation,” along with adding “information boxes” to “highlight quality information.”

According to the report, DuckDuckGo CEO Gabriel Weinberg tweeted about the decision^[1]https://twitter.com/yegg/status/1501716484761997318, stating that it was an effort to reduce Russian disinformation online. “Like so many others, I am sickened by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the gigantic humanitarian crisis it continues to create. #StandWithUkraine️,” Weinberg stated, “At DuckDuckGo, we’ve been rolling out search updates that down-rank sites associated with Russian disinformation.”

The announcement received widespread backlash from DuckDuckGo supporters, who view the changes as adopting the censorship policies of Google.

DuckDuckGo had been the go-to search engine primarily for those seeking the truth. But with, the recent down-ranking of sites associated with Russia shows DuckDuckGo has joined the bandwagon in manipulating what people see and read.
