House bill seeks to make COVID-19 vaccine mandatory

The bill docketed as House Bill No. 9252 was filed by Cavite Rep. Elpidio Barzaga Jr. It seeks to amend the COVID-19 Vaccination Program Act of 2021 to make mandatory the inoculation on individuals “as may be determined” by the Department of Health (DOH).

Here are some important provisions of the bill:

• The inoculation shall be given free of charge at any government hospital or health center provided that the inoculation, at all times, be science and evidence based.
• The bill aims to provide legislation so that government agencies can “mandate and promote COVID-19 vaccination, address vaccine hesitancy and instill public confidence in the personal, family and community benefits of immunization”.
• Medical doctors shall have the discretion, subject to disciplinary action by the Philippine Medical Association, to determine whether a person should get a medical exemption.

Editor’s Note: We need this legislation like we need a hole in the head. Does Congress want this country to plunge into further chaos due to the passage of scientifically uninformed laws like this.

We want to remind our lawmakers that we do not have a national health emergency. In addition, it is important for lawmakers to know that NONE of the COVID vaccines have received full authorization. All are being rolled out under the EMERGENCY USE AUTHORITY which is significantly different from a PRODUCT APPROVAL. Phase 3 trials of the vaccines are currently ongoing, with adverse effects and deaths among vaccine recipients feeding into the results of this global experiment.^[1]https://www.thefightisinus.org/documents/FDAResearchPlanning.pdf NONE of the COVID vaccines being rolled out today have proof of long-term safety and efficacy.

We strongly condemn this proposed legislation as it attempts to take away from us, the free people of the Philippines, the capacity to decide for our own health. This law is telling us that our right to consent is secondary to the state’s right to mandate. It is also reassigning our personal sovereignty to an external authority, a professional who is bound to be penalized by a private organization if they try to honor our right to consent or deny a medical intervention.
