This study conducted in Italy looked at the neurological complications associated with the first and second doses of three COVID vaccines: Moderna (mRNA-1273), Pfizer (BNT162b2), and AstraZeneca (ChAdOx1nCov-19). It found that there was an increased risk of neurological adverse events among women, and those who had comorbidities.

The researchers also found that with AstraZeneca, there is an increased risk for tremors, insomnia, tinnitus, muscle spasms, and headaches. Meanwhile, Moderna could lead to taste and smell alterations, vertigo, diplopia, sleepiness, paresthesia, and dysphonia. Lastly, Pfizer had an increased risk of cognitive fog.

The study was published by the journal Vaccines in September 2023.
