Veteran Journalist Breaks Down How NPR and Legacy Media Lost America’s Trust
In this article, Uri Berliner, a senior editor at the NPR discusses has NPR shifted from a trusted news source to a very biased one. Berliner says, “It’s true NPR has always had a liberal bent, but during most of my tenure here, an open-minded, curious culture prevailed… In recent years, however, that has changed. Today, those who listen to NPR or read its coverage online find something different: the distilled worldview of a very small segment of the US population…An open-minded spirit no longer exists within NPR, and now, predictably, we don’t have an audience that reflects America”.
To prove his point, Berliner relates how the news organization decided on how to cover Donald Trump, COVID-19, and the Hunter Biden laptop story. He discusses further how the issue of diversity is reshaping the culture in the organization for the worse.
Editor’s Note: This article is important because it shows us a first-hand view of how news organizations are shifting from being truth-tellers to propaganda machines. It shows us how journalists who decide to do their job could be ignored, or worse, ostracized. Berliner’s story has reminded us of a more concrete experience we have: the discrimination of the unvaccinated [see Study Finds Unvaccinated Were Scapegoated for Failure of COVID Shots, US Adds ICD Codes To Monitor Vaccination Status, Refer Unvaccinated to “Re-Education” Camps, Germany is Excluding the Unvaccinated from Democracy, DILG Wants Village Chiefs to Submit List of Unvaccinated Residents, Austria Has Fallen to Tyranny, Orders Lockdown for Unvaccinated, ‘Let them die’: Canada’s largest newspaper promotes hostility toward the unvaccinated].
Berliner’s story highlights the importance of the diversity of viewpoints and real conversations. Without it, no amount of liberalism, both in word and in action, can lead to meaningful progress.
