Natural Immunity Protects Against Omicron Variant: Study
In this February 16, 2022 article published by Epoch Times, Zachary Stieber reports on the results of a study conducted by researchers from Cleveland Clinic.
Here are some of the most important findings of the study:
- prior COVID infection provided effective protection for at least six months even in the absence of vaccination
- people who recovered from COVID and received two shots were more prone to contracting the disease again – even more than the unvaccinated
The researchers concluded, “Effectively, prior infection should be considered at least as protective in protecting against future infection as two doses of an mRNA vaccine. This is not to say that it is better to get infected than to get vaccinated. However, if someone did get infected and survived, the protection they have acquired from natural infection should be acknowledged.”
The researchers said that a limitation of the study is that they focused only on COVID infections as there is incomplete data on symptomatic infections and hospitalization.
Editor’s Note: It is important to note that because of the study’s limitations, there is simply no way to measure which group of people were more prone to symptomatic disease.
Despite this, however, the study raised some vital points. For example, why is natural immunity not acknowledged here in the Philippines? What is the science guiding Philippine health authorities pushing for mandatory vaccination with no exemptions, even for individuals who have already had COVID? [Even the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention acknowledges that natural immunity is robust and protective against COVID, read Finally Acknowledged by Mainstream Media: Natural immunity more potent than vaccines during US Delta Wave.]
Also, this puzzle is concerning for us: why would two doses of the COVID vaccine cause a person’s natural immunity to wane? Is this an indication of the impairment of immune function? We think that the Department of Health should answer this question: why is there no vaccine exemption given to individuals who have already recovered from COVIDs when science has proven already that natural infection is robust and protective against future variants?
