South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem: COVID didn’t crush the economy, governments did

The following is a 26-minute video of a speech given by South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) last February 28, 2021.

In this speech, Noem talks about how government response to the COVID crisis has led to an overnight reversal of the roaring US economy. She stresses that the restrictions imposed for infection control were arbitrary, unscientific, and not based on facts. Noem goes on to respond to the many criticisms she received from mainstream media by stating the current economic and COVID statistics of South Dakota. She also looked at the COVID approach done by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and pointed out the mistakes he made.

Noem also stresses that the crisis in the US today goes beyond COVID, and is moving towards the nation’s very identity. She adds that the fundamental principles that both Democrats and Republicans had clung to in the past had been forgotten, and a systematic move to modify history has been launched. She says, “..there was a worse movement that was going on in 2020…Across America this last several months we watched an organized, coordinated campaign to remove and eliminate all references to our nation’s founding and many other parts of our history. Rather than looking at the past to help improve our future, some are trying to wipe away the lessons of history”.

South Dakota is the only state in US to never issue stay-at-home orders and mandate mask wearing. The governor also claimed that they are the number 1 state economy in the US.

Editor’s Note: This article highlights two important insights. The first is this: if government leaders utilized the best practices of good governance, they would have attempted to create a balance between infection control and societal health. They wouldn’t have so easily conceded to using lockdowns. People need to hear the story of South Dakota because they need to see that there are other ways to deal with the coronavirus.

The second insight is that the issue of COVID has never been about health. If you look at the history of this pandemic, you will see early on that the information our governments needed to make the correct decision has been available to us as early as April [see AN OPEN LETTER TO RODRIGO R. DUTERTE President, Republic of the Philippines and the accompanying Briefing Paper]. Why did governments and the World Health Organization take a long time to catch on? Why didn’t the mainstream media not make balanced reports on the new developments about COVID-19?

Now the errors of these “credible” organizations are coming to light. The WHO has finally made a stand on lockdowns, and RT-PCR testing [see WHO no longer supports lockdowns, WHO finally admits the problem of PCR tests, WHO lowers cycle thresholds for PCR tests]. And we are also starting to see that some “errors” were not unintentional at all. Take for example the case of New York, why did Gov. Cuomo need to cover up the number of nursing home deaths in New York?1https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/cuomo-aides-altered-nursing-home-deaths-report-health-department-confirms/ar-BB1ehsTy?%3BOCID=HPDHP and https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2021/mar/4/andrew-cuomo-covid-deaths-cover-started-earlier-th/

What the other cover ups in the US and around the world were made in the course of the coronavirus crisis?

While many news outlets have highlighted Noem lambasting Fauci and Cuomo, we must not forget the next half of her speech. She reminds us that liberty and human dignity are the foundations of our nations, and as such, must be protected even in the midst of crisis. She also reminds us that if we want to create a better future for our children, we must not forget the lessons of the past.
