CDC Change Guidelines: Case Investigation And Contact Tracing No Longer Recommended

The following is a February 28, 2022 guideline released by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In it, the CDC says that case investigation and contact tracing is no longer recommended for COVID-19.

The CDC says that health departments should focus their efforts on “(1) case investigation and contact tracing in specific settings and groups at increased risk, and (2) promotion of proven prevention strategies to reduce transmission of COVID-19 in the community”. The CDC said that high-risk settings such as long-term care facilities, correctional facilities, and homeless shelters should be prioritized.

The CDC adds that case investigation should prioritize those with symptoms, and that notification of close contacts should occur within 5 days of their last known exposure to someone with COVID. Moreover, notification of close contacts should prioritize those who are at increased risk of severe health outcomes and death, for example, those with underlying health conditions, pregnant people, and older adults.

Editor’s Note: Nearly two years after spending huge amounts of money and resources on contact tracing, the government is now telling us that these were all futile exercise for COVID. Correction: they will tell you that these changes in policy are being made to reflect the changes in science.

What they aren’t telling you is that best practices in pandemic control already knew that contact tracing and quarantining of close contacts are useless [see this 2019 document which reviewed the scientific evidence for the use of various non-pharmaceutical interventions for control of influenza epidemics and pandemics created by the World Health Organization, Will the real WHO please stand up?].

The science didn’t change. It has always been there. What changed is that people know better and can no longer be manipulated.

It is the agenda, not the science, which has changed. This means that once their agenda changes again, illogical policies will follow. We hope that when this happens, we will all be more discerning and not fall into the trap.
