In this December 12, 2023 article for Global Research, Peter Koenig talks about the futile conversations happening at the Conference of Parties (COP) 28. He criticizes the fact that the President of COP 28 is also the CEO of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).

He slams the new buzzwords being coined by the COP: “climate neutrality” and “clean energy”, which disregards the need for concrete commitments that will maintain and sustain a healthy environment for future generations. Koenig concludes, “COP28 will end like all the previous COPs – no firm conclusions”.

Editor’s Note: The COPs are just all the other international meetings of United Nations Agencies such as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), among others. It has never been about collectively solving the world’s problems. Instead, it is a venue for the rich nations to push their interests and to ram down the throats of “poorer” nations new policies that will only benefit the rich.

It is all about manufacturing consent to a “dream” of a future that was crafted only by technocrats who have no grasp of realities on the ground.

If COP leaders wanted to care for the earth, there are so many solutions for it now, which does not need international conferences for approval. Already, small initiatives on permaculture, regenerative agriculture, zero waste lifestyle, homesteading, etc., are being adopted by citizens. Instead of hosting multi-million gatherings like the COP, governments should just funnel resources to marginalized groups to help them sustain their basic needs, as well as create improvements in their lives.
