The California Air Resources Board (CARB) announced last August 25, 2022, a new policy that they will require all new cars sold in the state to be free of greenhouse gas emissions by 2035 as part of its commitment to fight climate change. But just six days after the CARB’s announcement, the state’s power grid operator called on Californians to conserve energy.

According to the California Independent System Operator (California ISO), it will issue Flex Alerts asking consumers to reduce energy use from 4 to 9 PM. Some of the suggested ways of conserving energy are to “set thermostats to 78 degrees or higher to reduce air conditioner use, avoid using large appliances and charging electric vehicles, and turn off unnecessary lights”.

Social media users have slammed the state for its conflicting messages.

We are all for the protection of the environment, but if governments want to run societies purely on “sustainable energy”, then they need to make sure that all systems are ready for this shift.
