In this January 22, 2022 article for Israel National News, Y Rabinovitz reports on the results of a recent study published by the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) showing the increased risk of myocarditis following mRNA COVID vaccination.
The JAMA study utilized data from the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that around 96% of affected people were hospitalized and treated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and around 87% of those hospitalized had resolution of symptoms by the time of discharge. The research also shows that the risk of myocarditis following mRNA COVID vaccination is around 133 times greater than the background risk in the population.
Rabinovitz notes, “given that vaccination is no longer considered a reliable way in which to avoid COVID infection, it is unclear whether this has any specific relevance to the cost-benefit analysis of COVID vaccination, especially considering the low risk of complications following coronavirus infection for the age group most at risk for heart-related complications following vaccination”.
