According to Diver, the UK Parliament’s Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee will investigate the government “nudge unit”. This came after a group of 40 psychologists wrote the parliament and proclaimed that the governments’ strategy to “nudge” public behavior during the pandemic was “unaccountable and unethical”.

The psychologists opposed the use of dramatic adverts, which included slogans like: “If you go out you can spread it, people will die”, the use of “images of the acutely unwell in intensive care units”, and the “mono focus on showing the number of Covid-19 deaths without mention of mortality from other causes or the fact that, under normal circumstances, around 1,600 people die each day in the UK”.

The letter added, “Government scientists deploying fear, shame and scapegoating to change minds is an ethically dubious practice that in some respects resembles the tactics used by totalitarian regimes such as China, where the state inflicts pain on a subset of its population in an attempt to eliminate beliefs and behaviour they perceive to be deviant”.

Diver says that the investigation is part of the Parliament Committee’s investigation into the Government’s activities during the pandemic.

Editor’s Note: UK was not alone in using the fear appeal in its COVID strategy. All the claims made by the psychologists in their letter to the UK parliament are the same issues we have experienced here in the Philippines, as in many other countries worldwide.

The fact that we are now able to talk about the governments’ conscious use of fear, shame, and scapegoating to pummel people into submission is proof that our governments did not respect and trust its citizens to do what was right [see Fear appeal: The science of using fear to manipulate people into submission]. It is also proof that they only wanted us to follow their direction, no questions asked.

Meanwhile, mainstream media (MSM) is as much at fault here. They have magnified the government’s message without investigating. We must reiterate, however, that while we are happy to see that the truth about the scamdemic is now being revealed, we are also saddened that they are only being revealed now. We have seen the signs in 2020, just by doing our research. If only our governments cared to do the same thing, then we would not have been plunged into a worldwide societal crisis.
