This article summarizes a presentation made to India’s National Adverse Event Following Immunisation (AEFI) Committee last March 31, 2021. It showed that of the 180 deaths that occurred after immunization, 75% happened within three (3) days of the shot. The report also showed the same three-day window for other serious adverse events.

As of the time of writing, 86 such events were recorded, with 18 resulting in death.
Editor’s Note: This report is important because it shows us that particularly for AstraZeneca, monitoring of adverse effects should go beyond 15 minutes after inoculation. Are vaccine recipients told to self-monitor for a few days? Are they given information on where to send reports of adverse reactions? Do vaccine recipients know what conditions they should be monitoring for?
