Florida fights back against possible federal-mandated lockdown

The following is an article written by Julie Montanaro and published by WJHG, a local TV station in Florida and a member of the Gray Media Group. The article features Gov. Ron DeSantis’ response to a recent report that the Biden administration was considering travel restrictions on the state.

According to Gov. DeSantis, the state has fared better in the pandemic compared to other states on lockdown. Florida is currently ranked 28th among states with the largest number of COVID cases, 30th in COVID hospitalizations and 42nd in COVID fatalities. Gov. DeSantis adds, “Any attempt to restrict or lockdown Florida by the Federal government would be an attack on our state done purely for political purposes.

Editor’s Note: Florida’s experience offers us a number of important lessons. First, it shows us that lifting lockdowns do not correspond to increase in COVID risk, as was being reported in the news. We must remember that Gov. DeSantis lifted lockdowns and all government restrictions in September 2020 [see Florida lifts all coronavirus restrictions]. The flu season is already well underway. If lockdowns were a bad move, then we should already be seeing its fatal impact. But as Gov. DeSantis has said, Florida is faring really well considering it does not even have social distancing or masking mandates. If science was the only basis of coronavirus restrictions, then Florida’s good experience should already be on its way to being replicated in the entire US.

Second, Florida is showing us that the natural herd immunity approach is still the best way to protect populations. Their considerably lower hospitalization and death rates shows us that there is nothing reckless with lifting coronavirus restrictions. If anything, it is the one way we can fast-track the end of this “pandemic” [to understand this concept better, check out The Great Barrington Declaration: Life must return to normal for the healthy, the vulnerable must be protected, also see Singapore’s accidental COVID experiment shows proof of Great Barrington Declaration and Mumbai’s poorest may already have collective immunity against SARS-COV-2].

Third, why would the federal government attempt to shutdown a state like Florida where people have been living in normality for months and COVID-19 has not been such a big issue? If the real goal of the government was to allow people to return to normal without fear of COVID-19, then they should start looking into what Florida has done right. But this is not the case today. We can only think of one reason why the federal government would interfere in the state’s COVID success. A case like Florida is a danger to the mainstream COVID narrative because it breaks all the premises that hold this fear-based narrative together [see Fear appeal: The science of using fear to manipulate people into submission to understand why fear was the tool of choice by governments during this “scamdemic”].
