Belarus president reveals IMF/World Bank loans come with conditions for COVID-19 lockdowns

An article published by the Belarusian Telegraph Agency last June 19, 2020 reveals that the IMF/World Bank has attached quarantines, isolation, and curfews as a condition for the loans it offers countries. President Aleksandr Lukashenko, often referred to as the last tyrant in Europe, turned down the offer by saying, “We hear the demands, for example, to model our coronavirus response on that of Italy. I do not want to see the Italian situation to repeat in Belarus. We have our own country and our own situation”.

Belarus’ president has been underfire the past few months for his refusal to implement policies to curb the coronavirus infections in the country. He has been called a “coronavirus denier” for not adhering to any health standards recommended by the World Health Organization. He has allowed the well-attended Belarusian Premier League to resume, and has kept all businesses open, even as neighboring countries have already shuttered schools and their economies. At the time of writing, Worldometers shows that the country has 76,104 cases and 791 deaths due to COVID-19. Cases peaked in May and has steadily declined. The country’s 7-day moving average for deaths is at 5. Life in Belarus continues as normal, while many countries in the world are now struggling with the threat of oppression from their own governments.
