US President-elect Donald Trump has called for an immediate ceasefire in the Ukraine conflict, following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris. In a post on Truth Social, Trump emphasized the significant losses both sides have suffered and claimed that Kyiv is eager to negotiate a resolution to the war, which has lasted over 1,000 days. He stated, “Too many lives are being needlessly wasted,” and urged negotiations to begin promptly. Zelenskyy described the meeting as productive but stressed that any peace agreement must ensure lasting security for Ukraine, warning that a ceasefire without guarantees could lead to renewed hostilities.

Editor’s Note: Trump’s call for a ceasefire in Ukraine presents both opportunities and challenges for Western interests. On the positive side, it reflects a growing fatigue with the protracted conflict, potentially opening avenues for negotiations that could save lives and stabilize the region.

Russia has been very clear about its conditions for ending the war. However, significant concerns exist that such a ceasefire might be meaningless, as Ukraine has categorically rejected them even before negotiations began.

Aside from this, we still question Trump’s true intentions concerning Ukraine. On one hand he says he wants to end the war, but then he goes and appoints Lt. Gen. Not to mention the fact that all of the US’ allies are bent on continuing the Ukraine war! Will Trump have the courage to act against the flow? Or are all his pronouncements about the Ukraine war just lipservice? Seems like it.
