Iran’s Supreme Leader Commands Direct Strike on Israel Following Haniyeh Assassination

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has ordered a direct attack on Israel in retaliation for the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh. Following an emergency meeting of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Khamenei called for an immediate response, considering drone and missile strikes on military targets near Tel Aviv and Haifa. Iran may also coordinate attacks from allied forces in Yemen, Syria, and Iraq. The order came after a rocket attack on a veteran’s facility in Tehran, which Iran blames on Israel. Israel has not confirmed its involvement in the assassination.

Editor’s Note: This directive marks a dangerous intensification of hostilities in the Middle East. President Vladimir Putin had already warned in 2023 that the Israel-Hamas conflict could spiral into a larger regional war. He also pointed fingers at the U.S., blaming it for contributing to the escalation between Israel and Hamas. This added layer of geopolitical tension complicates the situation further, exposing the web of alliances and enmities in the region.

The repercussions are dire, with countless innocent lives at risk. Civilians, including women, children, and the elderly, could bear the brunt of the conflict, facing casualties, displacement, and severe humanitarian crises, which are already happening in many parts of the region. Human solutions are needed to prevent further bloodshed and destabilization in an already volatile region.
