It’s time for an alternative to lockdown

The following article was written by Dr. Jay Bhattacharya for The Spectator. He says, “We should, in moments of crisis, be open to ideas about how best to handle it”.

He says these words in the wake of various criticisms against The Great Barrington Declaration which he co-authors. He says that the proposal of the declaration – the return to normal for the young and healthy, and focused protection for high-risk individuals are not only common sense. They are also the same ways humans have successfully dealt with epidemics in the past. He adds, “All viable options – including lockdown-until-vaccine and the focused protection strategy share herd immunity as an end state”.

Bhattacharya proceeds to answer some of the criticisms received by the Declaration. For example, he demolishes the John Snow memorandum which claims that there is no evidence for long term protective immunity to SARS-CoV-2 [we know this to be untrue as several researches have already shown us, see New York Times: Immunity to coronavirus may last for years].

Editor’s Note: This article by Dr. Bhattacharya answers some of the misinformation promoted by mainstream media. It answers why herd immunity through natural infection can minimize both COVID and non-COVID harm. It also exposes the misleading claims made by so-called experts that herd immunity is risky and that lockdowns are the only solution to control SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Anyone with a critical mind can see that Dr. Bhattacharya’s assertions are consistent with what we know about the behavior of viruses. With more than 48,000 medical professionals already supporting The Great Barrington Declaration, millions of people back in hunger and poverty, and hundreds of countries experiencing severe societal damage, it is a wonder how governments can continue ignoring the reality that lockdowns have failed [we have a number of articles from various sources showing that lockdowns failed to control SARS-CoV-2 infection, see Is a lockdown necessary?]

No one is in any doubt about the threat posed by the Coronavirus. But nor should there be any doubt about the harm posed by…
