Epidemiologists on the cost of lockdown, the science of immunity, and the politicization of the pandemic

In this October 23, 2020 article for the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Tunku Varadarajan interviews Martin Kuldorff and Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, co-authors of The Great Barrington Declaration, a few weeks after the Declaration was published [see The Great Barrington Declaration: Life must return to normal for the healthy, the vulnerable must be protected].

In the interview, Kuldorff reveals the systematic media campaign against the Declaration. Kuldorff also says that COVID has been highly politicized, where one’s view of the pandemic became a marker for one’s political identity. The interview also reveals that Kuldorff and Bhattacharya have very different political identities, but what brings them together is the campaign against the illogical bases of current coronavirus measures.

Kuldorff and Bhattacharya then proceeds to talk about how lockdowns have made marginalized sectors even more vulnerable to the virus, and how current coronavirus policies caused “avoidable deaths and suffering” as well as “economic collapse that has placed the lives of 130 million poor people world-wide at risk of starvation.”

Kuldorff adds that COVID-19 restrictions violate two cardinal principles of public health: “First, you can’t just look at COVID, you have to look holistically at health and consider the collateral damage…second principle, you can’t just look short term”. Kuldorff also laments the closing of scientific minds where colleagues publicly smear their own, without regard for true scientific discourse [we have had this same experience from other so-called experts of COVID-19 response, see Hydroxychloroquine can dramatically ease the COVID-19 crisis].

Editor’s Note: SARS-CoV-2 has truly changed our society. The common sense, compassion, and empathy that we had have all been thrown out the window. Gone are the days when governments focused on citizen well-being and freedom. Smear campaigns and name-calling has replaced academic, scientific, and friendly dialogues. Social and mainstream media have resorted to censoring objective information from the very experts they used to uphold.

This interview with the WSJ reveals to us the rationale behind The Great Barrington Declaration. It shows us that there is no point in the coronavirus panic. And if you have been following our website since April, then like us, you are probably wondering why governments continue to insist on their current coronavirus policies. Don’t they remember this quote?

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
