Spanish government apologized to children for lockdowns

In April 23, 2020, Spanish Deputy Prime Minister Pablo Iglesias apologized to children for confining them in their homes since mid-March when the lockdowns started.  Iglesias also thanked children for the sacrifices they have made. 

Spanish children have been allowed to play outside of their homes since April 26, 2020.

Editor’s Note: The apology issued by deputy minister Pablo Iglesias is an acknowledgement that lockdowns have created unnecessary stress among children. It is an acceptance that the government could have made better decisions so that their young citizens do not have to carry the burden of the COVID-19 disease. 

One can hope that all governments will begin to realize that keeping children imprisoned in their homes has a high cost.
