Sinovac vaccine trial in Brazil halted after serious adverse event

In this November 10, 2020 article for Bloomberg, Simone Preissler Iglesias and Julia Leite reports about the suspension of the Sinovac Biotech’s Coronac vaccine trials in Brazil. The decision came after a serious adverse event was reported on October 29, 2020.

Sao Paulo’s Instituto Butantan, which partnered with Sinova in producing the vaccine locally, says that there is no relation between an incident with the volunteer and the vaccine as the “adverse effect” happened more than three weeks after the volunteer received the shot. Dimas Covas, head of the institute said that the health agency Anvisa, which issued the suspension, did not consult with researchers beforehand.

President Jair Bolsonaro is highly critical of Sinova’s vaccine, and was reported to have said that “people wouldn’t feel safe with the shot ‘due to its origin'”.

Editor’s Note: Here is another example of how the pandemic, and vaccines as cure, has become a tool for political manipulation. We must remember that President Bolsonaro has been hailed as coronavirus skeptic and mainstream media has been hard at work demolishing his character. While we have no opinion on whether Bolsonaro is a good leader or not, we have noticed that any government leader who proposes coronavirus measures that challenges mainstream narrative are portrayed the same way. As an exercise, and without taking any political position, we urge our readers to research about Andrew Tegnell from Sweden and find early articles on the pandemic, as well as Aleksandr Lukashenko, John Magufuli, and of course, Donald Trump. Look at the language and the angles the media uses.

While you’re at it, search for how the media portrays experts like America’s Frontliner Doctors, Prof. Sunetra Gupta and Dr. Scott Atlas and compare how they talk about Dr. Anthony Fauci.

Rather than trying to discover why the Sinovac vaccine trials are halted, the media should focus on understanding why companies are pushing for vaccines when it cannot prevent infection and complications of COVID-19 [see Fauci: Early COVID-19 vaccines will only prevent symptoms, not block infection and COVID-19 vaccine trials will not tell us if it can prevent moderate or severe cases]. also add effects of vaccine kicks in later – even months.
