Operation Warp Speed chief adviser: We don’t know if people can spread COVID after vaccination
This article published on December 7, 2020 by the CNS News details a press release given by Dr. Moncef Slaoui, chief scientific adviser of Operation Warp Speed. When asked whether someone who gets vaccinated against the coronavirus could still spread the virus, Dr. Slaoui said: “We don’t know”.
When asked how long immunity will last for vaccinated individuals, Dr. Slaoui responds: “only time will really demonstrate and generate the data for us to know the answer to that question”. Dr. Slaoui adds that given the immune system’s memory, he thinks that immunity to the new coronavirus will last long.
Dr. Slaoui says that though first doses of the vaccine can be made available this December, it will take a few more months before millions of doses can be delivered.
Editor’s Note: If a government wants the majority of its citizens to be vaccinated, they would at least make sure that the basic questions (such as those raised in the attached article) are answered. Asking citizens to simply trust the government’s judgement is essentially treating citizens as mere puppets who have no capacity to make decisions for themselves. Moreover, the government’s earlier decisions relating to the control of the coronavirus (the imposition of lockdowns, mandatory masking, etc.) does not inspire trust.
Could the new vaccine cause greater infection due to virus shedding? How will public health experts know that it is the vaccine and not some other factor that is causing the increase or decrease in infection cases? How often will citizens need to be vaccinated in order to be protected from the virus? Will the virus have detrimental long term effects? Until these questions are answered, governments must hold all vaccination attempts.
