Arab leaders from seven countries gathered in Saudi Arabia to denounce U.S. President Donald Trump’s idea to relocate Gazans and transform the enclave into a resort-style community. They talked about an alternate plan based on Egypt’s three-phase reconstruction proposal, which included cease-fire operations, rebuilding, and a path to Palestinian self-determination. The leaders hope to portray a united face during the Arab League’s March 4 summit in Cairo. The urgency is heightened by the United States’ insistence on Egypt and Jordan to receive displaced Palestinians, as well as threats to withdraw aid. Unresolved issues include obtaining financing for rehabilitation and defining Gaza’s future governance.
Editor’s Note: The notion that a single hegemonic power—particularly one with no direct stake in Palestinian self-determination—can dictate the fate of an entire people is both wrong and dangerous. Palestinians have spent decades resisting occupation, struggling for their land, identity, and basic human rights, and now a businessman-turned-politician sees an opportunity for profit rather than justice.
Turning Gaza into a luxury resort while forcibly transferring its people is not a solution; it is an insult that erases history and legitimizes future injustice. Arab countries’ haste to oppose such a suggestion demonstrates how little sovereignty is upheld when international superpowers put their economic and geopolitical interests ahead of people’s lives. If peace is ever to be achieved, it cannot come from a transactional mindset but from genuine recognition of Palestinian dignity, autonomy, and the right to determine their own future. It seems that the Palestinians have more Israelite blood in them than the those who claim to be Jews from Europe and the U.S.
