Arab Leaders Reject U.S. Plan to Transform Gaza

Arab leaders from seven countries gathered in Saudi Arabia to denounce U.S. President Donald Trump’s idea to relocate Gazans and transform the enclave into a resort-style community. They talked about an alternate plan based on Egypt’s three-phase reconstruction proposal, which included cease-fire operations, rebuilding, and a path to Palestinian self-determination. The leaders hope to portray a united face during the Arab League’s March 4 summit in Cairo. The urgency is heightened by the United States’ insistence on Egypt and Jordan to receive displaced Palestinians, as well as threats to withdraw aid. Unresolved issues include obtaining financing for rehabilitation and defining Gaza’s future governance.
