In this January 19, 2024 article for the Manila Bulletin, Ellson Quismoro reports on the recent invitation by House Speaker Martin Romualdez to the international business community who attended the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.

When asked about the future of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Romualdez alludes to the possibility of an ASEAN parliament. He says, “to see the seeds of that we invite you to Manila Manila this March 18 to 19. Manila and the Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. will be hosting the World Economic Forum CEO Roundtable. You will get a glimpse of our aspiration of an ASEAN parliament.”

Editor’s Note: Sadly, our leaders do not see that engaging in business with the WEF is like selling the soul of the country to the devil. This is the consequence of materialism. Filipinos, particularly those who live in abject poverty tend to believe that the rich and educated know what they are doing, and that they can be trusted to make the decisions for us. But as you can see in this article, even the rich and educated can be clueless.

Romualdez thinks that the WEF has the solutions to all our country’s problems, but this is further than the truth. The people at WEF are clueless about the world. The solutions they promote are impractical and useless because they do not consider the happenings on the ground. Moreover, the solutions that they promote benefit only the WEF members. Our wellbeing is last in their priority.
