In this October 17, 2022 article published by The Daily Mail, Caitlin Tilley and Mansur Shaheen report on the results of the research conducted by scientists from the Boston University.

The research created a hybrid virus by combining SARS-CoV-2 Omicron and the original Wuhan strain. 80% of mice infected with the frankenvirus died.

Professor Shmuel Shapira, a leading scientist of the Israeli government commented, “This should be totally forbidden, it’s playing with fire”.

Meanwhile, Dr. Richard Ebright, a chemist at Rutgers University said, “The research is a clear example of gain of function (GoF) research…If we are to avoid a next lab-generated pandemic, it is imperative that oversight of enhanced pandemic pathogen research be strengthened”.

The University of Boston denied that their experiment is gain of function, adding that the research was reviewed and approved by the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and the Boston Public Health Commission. They add that the hybrid virus is unlikely to be as deadly in humans as it was in mice.

In another article published by The Daily Mail, Dr. Emily Erbelding, a director at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) division of microbiology and infectious diseases, admitted that the team that conducted the GoF research did not clear their experiment with the agency, even though the university’s research department had received taxpayer’s money.

Editor’s Note: Why are scientists creating viruses that have the potential to wipe out humanity? If SARS-CoV-2 was so “lethal”, then why are governments not instituting bans on GoF studies, especially those that create more dangerous strains of the “deadly” COVID? By allowing scientists to play with fire, government leaders are either stupid (because they don’t know the implications of these studies), or they are careless (because they are knowingly courting disaster despite all the collateral damage from the two years of COVID panic). The government’s actions in the discovery of this new GoF research are showing that they couldn’t care less about what happens. How then, can we still believe that our governments are looking after our own interests?

There are several things we must take note of from this article.

First is that there continues to this day a debate on what is GoF research and what is not. Why is it so hard for people to define what is GoF and what is not? Are there no real definitions for this kind of study?

Second, the failure of government scientific agencies to define what GoF means that there is no way for the government to regulate these types of research. Why would the government allow this loophole when they know the dangers of virus manipulation studies?

Third, the researchers claim that their research was essential to predict possible mutations of the SARS-CoV-2 strain. By conducting their research, they think that health institutions can already begin to study potential therapeutics in case such mutation happens. The question is: how likely is it for such a mutation to occur?
