According to this report, farmers’ protests have now expanded to several countries in Europe, with German, Italian, and Polish farmers also rising up. German farmers have helped the Dutch close off the Netherlands-Germany border. Meanwhile, Polish farmers have joined the fight in their own country.

Poland’s Director of Agriculture Institute, Monika Przeworska has raised concern about the protests after videos of Dutch police shooting at the farmers who were protesting circulated on social media. Przeworska said that the Dutch government is treating farmers as “terrorists”. She said, “Shooting at tractors of protesting farmers in the Netherlands represents a new level reached by Western democracy”.

Editor’s Note: We believe that people must be mindful of their impact on the environment and that drastic steps must be taken to prevent our Earth from imploding. But we also think that if governments want to make policies that would heavily impact their citizens, then these policies must undergo consultation and debate.

The policies being forced on the Netherlands in the name of climate response are an example of the government’s abuse of authority. It is only possible because they thought they had the power to do anything they want as long as they do it in the case of an emergency.
