Suicide deaths in Philippines rose by 26% in 2020
The number of deaths due to self harm has increased by 26% during the pandemic year, making suicide the 27th leading cause of death in the Philippines.
According to this news report published by ABS CBN News on March 17, 2021, deaths due to suicide reached 3,529 in 2020, up by 721 from 2,808 of the previous year. Psychologist Randy Dellosa said that Filipinos are “sick and tired of trying to consider as a ‘new normal’ what in reality is an obvious ‘abnormal.’’
Editor’s Note: Suicide rate is increasing around the world due to lockdowns, and yet here is the Philippine government still relying on draconian measures to create a facade of control over the coronacrisis. The science has been out since July 2020 – lockdowns do not work [see Science has spoken: End the lockdown]. No matter how long and stringent the Philippine government makes it, lockdowns will not work. It will only cause more unintended consequences and greater suffering not only for adults, but also for children, whose futures are being squandered by our government’s unwillingness to accept its mistake.
