Lab just made a more dangerous SARS-CoV-2 strain

In this February 5, 2021 article for his website, Dr. Joseph Mercola reports the results of a new research that has developed a SARS-CoV-2 variant that can bypass acquired immunity and negate the immunity one would usually get after recovery from COVID-19. The gain-of-function research is currently on pre-print, and was authored by several scientists including Emanuele Andreano, Danilo Licastro, et al. To read the actual research, visit bioRxiv.

In the article attached below, Mercola explains the research methodology in lay man’s terms. He also breaks down the possible implications of the research.

Editor’s Note: Even as the World Health Organization tries to uncover the origins of SARS-CoV-2, our scientists create new problems for us. Are they bent on damning our civilization? Do they truly want to create a virus so strong it will wipe out entire populations?

Laboratory leaks have happened, and we know that gain-of-functions are dangerous (which was precisely the reason why President Barack Obama banned the funding and conduct of such research on US soil), and yet our scientists disregard the threat. Imagine the damage this new strain can cause if it inadvertently leaks into populations. Do they really think that this kind of research makes life better for anyone? [There is indication that the original SARS-CoV-2 may have been developed through a gain-of-function research funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and outsourced to the Wuhan laboratory, see New evidence ties COVID-19 origin to Wuhan lab, research funded by NIAID]

This article highlights the problem with purely materialistic science. Our quest for knowledge have become so disconnected with societal values, and we no longer consider the implications of the studies we develop.

These scientists can delude themselves into believing that their research will save the world, but we know the truth. Tampering with nature has always created unintended consequences for human life. Some consequences may be benign and negligible. Others can devastate entire populations. Humanity’s inability to predict these unintended consequences necessitates that we be careful in attempting to modify nature.
