Sweden discovers 3,700 false positives from test kit
A report published by the Local SE last August 25, 2020 showed that 3,700 SARS-CoV-2 cases in Sweden were in fact false positives. The inaccuracy was discovered following the quality control tests carried out by two Swedish laboratories. The test kits, manufactured by BGI Genomics from China, were designed to show if a patient has an ongoing coronavirus infection.
With this discovery, Sweden had to adjust their statistics, but the Swedish government said that the effect of such an adjustment was “marginal”.
Editor’s Note: The use of rapid test kits to detect the SARS-CoV-2 is as problematic as the use of RT-PCR tests [see RT-PCR tests are scientifically meaningless, BBC: Coronavirus tests could be picking up dead virus and Why COVID-19 is guaranteed to never end . And yet, rapid tests continue to be utilized due to the speedy return of results, and it is also economical.
The problem is that most countries do not identify which positive results were from rapid test kits and which ones were verified by RT-PCR tests [read New York Times: More experts questioning RT-PCR testing and Faulty COVID-19 tests: Why prisoners love their jailers and never-ending lockdowns to understand why PCR tests should not be used for policy decision making].
