The US Has Withdrawn from the WHO: Now What?
On January 20, 2025, President Trump issued an executive order for the U.S. to withdraw from the World Health Organization (WHO), citing concerns over mishandling of global health crises and undue influence from other countries. However, Trump indicated the U.S. might rejoin if the WHO undergoes reforms. Stand for Health Freedom expresses concern that Trump’s actions might not be enough to fully disentangle U.S. health policy from global health entities, as funding could be redirected to organizations like the Gates Foundation that also support the WHO. They advocate for congressional action to solidify the withdrawal and vigilance against other international agreements that could undermine U.S. sovereignty in health matters, emphasizing the need to eliminate the “One Health” concept from U.S. policies.
