It is clear that the genocidal leaders of Israel, bit off more than they could chew! The Iranians are clearly devastating Israel. The latter had been threatening Iran and had placed the latter in its hit list for decades. Now they have launched an unprovoked war on Iran, the Israelis are getting a beating that they never had since they were formally established as a modern state in 1948. They are close to collapsing as a nation if the US does not step in to rescue their beleaguered ally.
This is indeed a huge victory not only for Iran but also for all the oppressed nations in the region especially the Palestinian people. However, this victory should not get into the head of supporters of Iran. They should retain their moral balance and compass even as they pummel the Israelit forces and its IDF into massive shame and humiliation.
Why this concern? Potential hubris is starting to manifest in small ways. But if not noticed and placed in its proper place, the pride of victory will slowly but surely turn into real hubris.
Just today, June 20, 2025, Scott Ritter and Professor Mohammad Marandi were in an interview together. They were discussing the current developments in the war between Israel and Iran.
That interview was doing well but, towards the end, it took on a sour note. From the context of the statements, it seemd that Ritter and Marandi had had a previoius difference of opinion regarding the role of Iran in starting the war. Ritter is known for blaming Iran for raising a red flag before the Iraeli bull. That red flag was the flaunting of Iran that it could build a nuclear weapon if it wanted to but has decided not to produce nuclear weapons.
Of course, such a stance by Ritter did not go well with many people including Marandi and even researchers at CCH. Ritter’s argument rested on a technicality of a previous agreement signed by Iran with the US regarding the level of nuclear enrichment that it was allowed to have. Ritter’s comments did not appreciate the degree of hostility, contempt and treachery that the Israelis and Americans displayed against Iran.
Meanwhile, Marandi has become a kind of viral internet hero for continuing to bravely provide the latest update on Iran’s response despite potential danger to his life. Marandi did this by continuing to be present in areas of Tehran that were being heavily bombed by the Israelis.
During the interview, Ritter demonstrated good will and gentlemanly manners by appreciating having an interview together with Marandi. He emphasized that they both ultimately wanted a peaceful ending to the current war between Israel and Iran.
However, Marandi ignores Ritter’s kind gesture of healing misunderstanding between the two of them. Marandi instead talked about some important reminders regarding genocide in Gaza and how Israel is losing the war. It was as if Marandi was driving home the message that it did not need an allies, even those coming from inside its most powerful adversay, the US, because Iran can do it along by itself.
While Marandi’s comments are appropriate in another context, it is totally ill-mannerred, out of tune and a potential sign of hubris. If he were a real gentleman in a friendly conversation with an erstwhile person with a different opinion. he should have reinfroced Ritter’s gesture of healing a strained relationship between two parties that want peace in the world and the removal of hubris of the US Empire in world affairs.
Hopefully, Marandi will not get an inflated ego as a result of all the well-desterved appreciation he is getting around the world. We can only build true peace in the world if we are able to build decency inside ourselves. The presence of peace and understanding inside ourselves is the only foundation for trying to build bridges of understanding with others who ultimately share the same aspirations for a peaceful world for humanity.
When we do not show a minimum decency for reciprocating the gesture of peace from an ally. then that lack of basic decency could ultimate flame itself into hubris. We do not need allies because we in Iran can do it alone. That would be a fatal mistake.
