On March 30, 2025, The New York Times (NYT) shocked the world. It released a report with the stunning title of “The Partnership: The Secret History of America’s Role in the Ukraine War.” It finally admitted the heavy and massive involvement of the US in the war in Ukraine. The US used Ukraine as a proxy in its strategic plan to conquer Russia.
Since the NYT has a paywall and a limited access policy, readers may instead take a look at this informative article from ZeroHedge.1 The latter does an excellent summary and analysis of the NYT article. If readers want a short video version of the essence of the report, they may wish to visit this video clip from the Times of India.2
The NYT admission surprised millions around the world. But, for those who have been following the Ukraine-Russia war, this was old news. The fingerprints of the US have been visible since the beginning of the war. Worst, the US CIA was involved in the overthrown of a Ukrainian government trying to take a balanced position in its relationship with both Russia and the USA.
This regime change operation of the US is known as the Maidan Coup of 2014. The role of the US has been more than amply demonstrated when Russian intelligence released an audio tape of the US coup plotters including Victoria Nuland, former Undersecretary of State under President Biden.3
After the successful coup, the US and Ukraine systematically murdered more than 14,000 Russian-speaking residents in Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine.4 This genocide, among other reasons, eventually convinced Russia to invade Ukraine in February 24, 2022. Both regions of Ukraine, plus two more, subsequently voted in September 2022 to annex themselves to the Russian Federation.
Most analysis of the NYT report focused on the details of the heavy US involvement in Ukraine’s war with Russia. However, few mentioned the strategic dilemma that the Trump Administration faces in its attempt to broker peace between Ukraine and Russia.
The NYT article clearly demonstrates, in vivid detail, that the US is an actual combatant in Ukraine’s war against Russia. The US supplied billions of dollars of support. They gave arms, weapons, missiles, tanks, combat intelligence and planned many Ukrainian military deployments.
The dilemma is this. How can the US be a neutral broker for peace when it has now been exposed as the main combatant against Russia?
The world can be fooled with this duplicity. But Russia is well-aware of the game that the US is playing. While they are open to peace, they are wary, very wary of US sincerity in the process. This is the reason why Russia has not deviated from its non-negotiables, a position they have been consistently articulating during the war and during the negotiations with Trump.
The invasion by Russia of Ukraine was clearly provoked. (This will be the subject of another article that will be posted by CCH in due time.) And the Americans were heavily involved in this provocation. Furthermore, NATO countries joined the lead of the US in this provocations.
Real negotiations towards peace can only continue when this hard fact is recognized.by the US, NATO, and Ukraine. Barring that, not only will the war in Ukraine continue. It will slowly but surely bring the world to the edge of World War III that will most likely be nuclear.
