Canadian Paediatric Society: Ontario government must re-open outdoor spaces immediately
In this May 8, 2021 article for Global News, Hannah Jackson covers a letter released by the Canadian Paediatric Society which called on the Ontario government to reopen outdoor recreation spaces for kids and to create a plan to get students back to school. The letter was addressed to Premier Doug Ford, Education Minister Stephen Lecce, and Sport Minister Lisa McLeod.
The letter said, “Our clinics and hospitals are overrun with families seeking care for children and youth in distress – eating disorders, anxiety, hopelessness, depression, problematic substance use and more”. It stresses that the coronavirus measures, which included the ban on recreational facilities starting April 2021, do not make sense as there is no data showing that these venues are sources of virus transmission.
In an interview, Dr. David Fisman, a professor at the University of Toronto and member of Ontario’s COVID-19 Science Advisory Table said, “Outdoor activities are vital for mental and physical health, especially with stay-at-home orders. Science is clear: Outdoor COVID transmission is extremely rare”.
Editor’s Note: The Canadian Paediatric Society is just one of the many medical societies calling for the need to end the lockdowns on the youth and children [see Overcome the fear: Sign petition to end lockdowns of children and the youth and the article category Schools and Children]. The government’s insistence on keeping our children locked up is anti-science and must stop.
In the Philippines, children below 15 have been on lockdown for a year now. Will no lawyer out there step up to fight for our children’s constitutional rights?
