Study: Even a military enforced quarantine can’t stop the virus

The following article was written by Jeffrey Tucker for the American Institute for Economic Research. It was published last November 13, 2020.

In this article, Tucker talks about a study conducted by the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai and published by the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), which included participants from the Naval Medical Research Center. The study, COVID-19 Health Action Response for Marines (CHARM) looked at the stringent 2-week implementation of non-pharmaceutical interventions in a marine training facility in order to determine how effective lockdowns and other interventions were. According to the study description, the facility had even more stringent policies when it comes to social distancing, isolation, hygiene, and masking than those found in the streets.

The results show that the virus still spread,  with 2% of all CHARM recruits testing positive. All those who tested positive with PCR reported no symptoms. When compared to a control group who were not tested and isolated as the CHARM recruits, no participants reported lower positivity rate at 1.7%.

Tucker says that this study shows that frequent testing and isolation leads to greater degree of infection. He adds that mainstream media has missed the point of the study, and cited three headlines to prove his point. Here are some examples: from CNN, “Many military COVID-19 cases are asymptomatic, studies show”, and from the US Navy: “Navy/Marine Corps COVID-19 study findings published in New England Journal of Medicine”. Tucker added, “No national news story that I have found highlighted the most important finding of all: extreme quarantine plus frequent testing and isolation among military recruits did nothing to stop the virus”.

To read the results of the actual study visit the NEJM website.

Editor’s Note: Does anyone in mainstream media still bother with true investigative journalism? Does any journalist still know how to read texts critically? Because Tucker’s conclusions about the NEJM study is clear to see. If military-grade restrictions could not keep the virus at bay, why are countries still implementing the solutions they have been using the past nine (9) months? Has media not experienced enough suffering that it can ignore results as important as this one? Are they truly ignorant of the truth or are they turning a blind eye?

“The lockdowners keep telling us to pay attention to the science. That’s what we are doing. When the results contradict their pro-compulsion narrative, they pretend that the studies do not exist and barrel ahead with their scary plans to disable all social functioning in the presence of a virus…
