Danish mask study now published: Masks do not reduce SARS-CoV-2 infection

A randomized controlled trial involving 4,862 participants shows that masks do not protect mask wearers from SARS-CoV-2 infection. The researchers gave this conclusion: “Our results suggest that the recommendation to wear a surgical mask when outside the home among others did not reduce, at conventional levels of statistical significance, the incidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection in mask wearers in a setting where social distancing and other public health measures were in effect.”

Editor’s Note: This article shows us that if you are sick with a virus, then by all means, wear a mask to protect those who are around you. But if you are wearing a mask to protect yourself from the virus, then sorry, you have been misled.

The article also shows us that if social distancing and other public health measures are already in place, masks do not offer a significant impact on infection control.

In this sense, the Philippines is a unique case. Despite face masks, face shields, social distancing, lockdowns, and a plastic barrier between employees and clients in place, the media continues to bombard us with news of increasing cases and deaths due to COVID-19.
